6 Ways Chiropractic Can Protect Your Heart

Lakeland Chiropractic

Here at Lakeland Chiropractic, February is “Heart Month”. One of the ways that we observe Heart Month is by helping to raise funds for Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center and participating in their “Have-A-Heart” Campaign. Oklahaven is a non-profit chiropractic center that specializes in the care and treatment of neurologically disorganized children, and has been doing so since the 1960’s. Oklahaven provides care for children who have oftentimes exhausted all medical options for their conditions, and come to Oklahaven as a last resort.

Regular chiropractic care is one way to ensure that your body is able to function at 100%. A chiropractor’s job is to help you maintain a nervous system that is free of interference, by ensuring that the bones of your spine are properly aligned. That way, the spine is not prohibiting the flow of vital information from the brain out to the heart. A properly-functioning nervous system is important to overall health, and can have a direct effect on both heart health and function. Below are just a few of the ways that chiropractic care can promote a healthy heart:

  1. Lowers blood pressure – studies have shown that upper cervical chiropractic adjustments (specifically to the atlas) can lead to significant improvements in blood pressure. Chiropractic may offer a non-pharmacological approach to the management of hypertension symptoms
  • Improved nerve function – chiropractic care will lead to more balance within the autonomic nervous system, having a calming effect on the heart, lungs, GI tract, kidneys, and other vital organs.
  • Decreases blood markers of inflammation – studies showed that prolonged chiropractic care led to a decreased inflammation and inflammatory markers within the blood.
  • Improved heart rate variability – good heart rate variability is linked to longevity and heart health. It’s reflective of your heart’s ability to adapt to different situations and stressors.
  • Decreases chest pain – often times chest pain is actually musculoskeletal in nature due to thoracic subluxations, costochondral inflammation, or a rib subluxation. Chiropractic care can help alleviate these issues.
  • Improved lung function – chiropractic can have a positive impact on asthma and emphysema patients through improved lung function. Optimizing respiratory function through chiropractic will help improve heart function.

We encourage you to “Have-A-Heart” this month and join us in our mission to help support Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center. When you are in for your next adjustment, ask about how you can get your name on our wall of fame. Also for the month of February, for every new patient that you refer to our office, Lakeland Chiropractic will donate an additional $10 to this great charity.
